Physical Therapy: What Is It?

Is dry needling right for you?
A physical therapist with specialized training uses Trigger Point Dry Needling by using a solid filament needle that is inserted into the skin and muscle at a myofascial trigger point. A trigger point consists of multiple knots within the muscle. These knots are related to the production and maintenance of the pain cycle.
IS IT THE SAME AS ACUPUNCTURE?
WHO CAN BENEFIT?
DOES IT HURT?
It is common after a TDN session you will feel an immediate change in the treated area. These changes may include but are not limited to; increased range of motion, decreased or eliminated pain with the previously painful movement, and post-workout type muscular soreness in the area treated. The soreness may also be likened to post deep massage soreness.
You may feel sore immediately after treatment in the area of the body you were treated, this is normal but does not always occur. It can also take a few hours or until the next day before you feel soreness. The soreness may vary depending on the area of the body that was treated, and varies from person to person, but typically it feels like you had an intense workout at the gym. Soreness typically lasts 24-48 hours. If soreness continues beyond this please contact your treating therapist.
It is not uncommon to have
It is not uncommon to feel tired, nauseous, emotional, giggly or “loopy”, and/or somewhat “out of it” after treatment. This is a normal response that can last up to an hour or two after treatment. If this lasts beyond a day contact your treating therapist as a precaution.
There are times when treatment may actually make your typical symptoms worse. This is normal. If this continues past the 24 hour –
WHAT DO I DO AFTER THE SESSION?
It is recommended that you soak in a hot bath or hot tub to help avoid post-treatment soreness or enjoy our Far Infrared Sauna.
After treatment you may do the following based on your comfort level if it hurts or exacerbates your symptoms then stop;
- Work out and/or stretch
- Massage the area
- Use a heating pad
- *Avoid ice unless you are icing a bruise, heat is better for muscle soreness.
*It is not recommended to drink alcohol, if you chose to do so, do not drink excessively.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT DR. MATT
“My son Mason was always a good athlete but middle of the pack competitor. Fortunately for him Coach Gentry moved into our area and we attended his camp which led to private lessons which always ended with a 10-15 minute mental talk. The results were immediate not only on the mat but school as well. His focus was better and confidence was high. In the 5 years he trained with coach he was a 4 time state placer in wrestling and 3 time all conference and all state in football. Thank you Coach Gentry!”
“Matt Gentry attained success athletically at the highest level possible because he attacked his athletic goals as he does everything in life: fearlessly, passionately, strategically, and positively. With a natural gift for teaching, I cannot think of anyone more qualified to pass along these ideals to the next generation. Not to mention the simple fact that he is truly a great person to be around.”
“I was Matt’s college coach at Stanford University, and I can say with certainty that I learned more from him than he learned from me. Matt’s positive approach to athletics and growth mindset made him both wildly successful and happy. After watching him approach the sport, school, and other challenges in his life, I have changed my opinions and practices on coaching. In fact, I am coaching my own sons with Matt’s mentality in mind.”
“Matt Gentry was one of the hardest workers I have ever worked with. His dedication to being the best is unmatched. What’s even more impressive is how he is able to share his experience with others to help motivate them to want to be the best they can be.”

What is Physical Therapy?
Dr. Nate shares about Medical Exercise Therapy and how it differs from traditional Physical Therapy methods.
WHAT IS TREATMENT LIKE?
Physical Therapy treatment can take many different forms. The common goal for treatment is to get the muscle or joints moving appropriately with massage, manipulation, dry needling and/or stretching and then reinforce that new movement with exercise. After joints and muscles have been restored many treatments focus on optimizing your strength, endurance, coordination, balance, and posture so that you can move in a way you were designed to move. We do have modalities such as thermal modalities, ultrasound and electrical stimulation, which can be used at the therapist discretion. We have state of the art equipment including medical exercise pulleys, Pilates reformer and Chair, Cardio Equipment, Infrared Sauna and Cervical, and Lumbar Traction.
